Simply put : TripStop is a system that allows concrete paths to hinge and not displace. Each piece of TripStop protects that joint.
TripStop™ is a rigid PVC profile that is used to form transverse joints in concrete pavements that are capable of transferring load while accommodating rotation and contraction or expansion.
It is particularly suited to pavements designed for pedestrian or bicycle traffic.
Pavements of this type are:
- Relatively lightly loaded
- Often subject to relatively high levels of uplift from tree roots and subsidence and / or movement from soil expansion or shrinkage
- Subject to normal levels of expansion and contraction from temperature change and shrinkage
TripStop is UV and Ozone stabilised and Lead and Cadmium free extrusion that is installed in the concrete during the pour. Its uniquely designed double 'hinge' allows the concrete segments to raise and lower when the earth moves. This ensures that the segments or modules do not displace and create tripping hazards.
TripStop is currently being used in footpaths, bike paths, crossovers and driveways. The future possible uses are roads , airport runways and bridges. Basically anywhere you want to control concrete slab displacement is where TripStop should be used.
TripStop™ accommodates significant upward or downward vertical movement at joints without the formation of trip hazards to pedestrians or damage to the concrete. It accommodates contraction without damage to the concrete. It is being increasingly used to eliminate the need for expansion joints, a common, if not inevitable source of trip hazards in pedestrian pavements. TripStop™ profiles are made to match common pavement thicknesses and are cut to match the width of the pavement. They are designed to be located at similar intervals to conventional contraction joints.
